Phalaenopsis "Moth" Orchids
The "Moth Orchid," also known as the Phalaenopsis Orchid, has become increasingly popular in recent years thanks to its suitability as a houseplant. Recent hybrid trends have increased the color palette and number of blooms per plant, making them even more desirable. Their sprays of long-lasting flowers in the spring always command attention.
At present Phalaenopsis, or Phals, as they are commonly called, can be found in white, yellow, green, many shades of pink, and near red. In conjunction with our growers in Taiwan, Valley Orchids is working to release more art-shade Phals, expanding the palette to include harlequin-influenced colors. Phalaenopsis flowers may be large on long stems (standard) or small on short, branched stems (multiflora). Flowers may be strongly striped or spotted and even fragrant. The genus Phalaenopsis originated in tropical Asia and can also be bred with other Asian orchid families. |
